Located near Gate One, across from the Officers’ Club, the MWR Coaster
Harbor Island Marina offers sailing and powerboating classes to authorized
patrons, ages 18 and older. Berthing is available, as well as a boat
launching ramp for towed boats. Sailboats and powerboats may be rented
with an appropriate qualification card; kayaks and paddleboards may be
rented, no qualification card needed. Open May through October, Monday
through Friday, noon to half an hour before sunset and 8 a.m. to half
an hour before sunset on weekends and holidays.
IMPORTANT INSEASON INFORMATION:
Each sail and powerboat student must complete the RI Safe Boating Course
at: https://www.boat-ed.com/rhodeisland/ and present the certificate of
completion at the first ground school session. This is followed by the
required proctored Rhode Island State Safe Boating Exam which will be
given to you during one of the ground school sessions at Naval Station
Sessions and end times are subject to weather and sunset time.
The Navy Recreational Sailing Program requires all participants to wear
personal floatation devices while being trained on the water.
FISHING AT NAVSTA - In order to fish on base you must have a RI
Saltwater fishing license, go to www.ri.gov/DEM/saltwater to print
one (free for active duty personnel). You must also have a base
fishing license, call Environmental at (401) 841-7607. Licenses
are only available Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (no holidays)
located in Building 1.
THERE IS NO FISHING AT THE PIERS OR AT
COASTERS HARBOR ISLAND MARINA.
This MWR facility is open to active duty personnel, retirees, reservists,
eligible family members, DoD civilians and contractors with base access.
